Too Soon and Too Late

The Laughs are On Us for Now

A giddy wackadoo posing with a statue in the Rotunda like he’s touring the Keystone Brewery on “Bacon ‘n Beer” day. A bargain basement QAnon fashion victim who assumes “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is a How-To manual for human behavior. The Viking goober “QAnon Shaman” painted up as part of a rush week hazing at Trump University. These images beg immediate ridicule, so rich are they in laughable stereotypes and unabashed idiocy. It’s as if Mel Brooks had set his sights on Trumpism as a suitable follow-up to his “Springtime for Hitler” number in THE PRODUCERS, and “The Inquisition” in HISTORY OF THE WORLD. Except what we saw on January 6, 2021 — as Donald Trump, Don Jr, Rudy Giuliani and others spurred hundreds of disinformed deadnecks* to storm the Capitol in an attempt to lynch any members of Congress NOT willing to overturn a free and fair election — was not satire. It was the real thing. The atrocity itself. So, it is too soon to laugh, even though laughter takes the edge off our horror, our anger, and our fear.

Someone please ID this deadneck sombitch (pic., r) and take his Smart and Final card away

It’s also too late. Too late to prevent Donald Trump from doing something terrible, because it’s been a terrible four years. He has the reverse Midas Touch, in that everything he touches turns to garbage (economies crash, losers lose bigger, pandemics are worse, even antidotes are tainted by proximity to his toxicity). Every endeavor is for naught, even if some reap “benefits” (a 2% cut to the marginal tax rate, a role in the government they’d never otherwise have, a false sense of American exceptionalism), it all proves fruitless, as a Capitol policeman is murdered, a rioter is killed, others die, are arrested, disgraced, disillusioned…none of the outcomes are funny.

At least, we needn’t ask, “Who sacked the Capitol?” From Donald J. Trump and his top-level Cowardice Crew, to his Illegal Advisors, Confidants & _ucker Carlsons of the media, to the aforementioned Deadneck Horde, the Complicit Capitol Insiders, the RAGA Robocallers, GOPissheads that voted to acquit the first go-round, the voters who thought a second term was a good idea, and last but not least, soon-to-be-former Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and the other Suited and Besotted GOP Dildos in Congress who gave the attackers a reason to charge the chambers by using rampant disinformation as the basis for “investigation” (and who actually managed to be inside those chambers while being outside in spirit)…we know who caused the coups attempt. Every wastrel is on record — and on camera — playing out their role (a hallmark of the “Trump Method”).

What now? Between now and January 20, the Twitter-Shopify Refejct’s ability to wreak havoc must be curtailed, as he can only have been encouraged by the bloody wreckage of Wednesday’s insurrection.

Assuming Republicans cannot summon the integrity and sense to help remove him, his movements and powers should at least be restricted — and once he leaves office, Trump must be impeached and convicted, to ensure that Bald Shriveled Trump’s participation in our electoral system is over and that he is deprived of his most cherished reward: living out his days on the dime of the Americans whose lives he damaged, destroyed or surrendered during his run as our enemies’ most useful asset.

  • deadneck — a Trumper, dead from the neck up in their inability to discern reality from supremacist fantasy
